Here at Children of light all for Jesus, We serve like Christ through doing  all the good we can,
By all the means we can,

As long as is the will of God.

1- We have Spiritual development:
    Before anything, God first (Matthew 6:33) Here we help the children to have relationship with God through prayer, praises and worship,bible counseling and distribution of bible truck.

2-Education support:
Since you can not pour from an empty cup, Here we support children to well educated

3-Psychosocial Support:
When someone lose his or her peace then it require someone to comfort them, with that we help children to restore their peace by resettling them in normal position/families

 4- Economic empowerment:
Teaching someone to catch fish by him or herself is better than giving fish, We help the disadvantaged families/Households who has the vulnerable children to have livelihood.

Background;

The children of light all for Jesus is Christian based organization established in April 2017 and registered to the district to lawfully operate. This organization is working to support the Orphans vulnerable children in Bungatira Sub County in Gulu district specifically in areas of education, Spiritual development, psychosocial support and economic empowerment to children and disadvantage families/households.

 The main purpose of our activities or program is zeroed down to create a very conducive environment for the  Orphans and vulnerable children to live in harmonious society which  are friendly for example ,spiritual development , access to education, access to  food as well as  medical health care.

The following are the activities/achievements registered during our previous years of operation;

The community meetings held at different places enables us to create good relationship and identify the most vulnerable children /families who were to be supported. Hence this activity registered some good number of community members who got  supports.

The process of registration, selection and assessment of children/families as an activity was fully supported by the local community members as well the local leaders. This was done mainly to get the right beneficiaries who are seriously vulnerable and we registered 500 children.

Further, after engaging the local community in the sensitization meetings about our program at various levels, we went ahead in the distribution of scholastic materials to these vulnerable children. This was done to encourage them attend schools regularly since their parents/guidance were not able to offer these items to them.

Most important as well, these vulnerable children were supported with home based kits for example, the food items, laundry soap, tooth paste and shoes. This was achieved because almost up to 200 children were in position to be given these items.

In our activity, we also involved these children in Music Dance and Drama/ sport development. The sporting activity we engaged these children in, was football and this was necessary for them so that they realize their hidden talents/skills.

It’s also realistic to note that , Psychosocial support as an activity encompasses the following ,career guidance/counseling, spiritual development to these vulnerable children so that they know God and live in his wishes.

Finally, school/home visit was also done merely to understand their performances at school and continuous home assessment at their homes for any further interventions.

However, looking at the above activities/ achievements, it‘s with relevant concern to consider the challenges encountered during operation for example,

Community meeting venue; During our meetings with these children, it‘s a challenge to get a proper shelter that can accommodate large number of people for example, during rainy season .So due to this many of our programs were affected couple to limited space in our office.

 Hard to reach children/homes; Most of these children are scattered across various villages. Hence this was so difficult to carry out mobilization in time of need.

Similarly, transport facilities are a setback in executing our activities/program. This a very serious challenge especially in time of school/home visitation since the organization does not have motorcycle to ease program implementation as well as doing administrative work.

Inadequate funds; in carry out these activities/programs, the community contribution is minimal since most of the group members are not engaged in any productive activities that can raise funds.

Recommendation and way forward;

The following challenges discussed above are some of the negative hurdles affecting the implementation of our programs therefore, we are requesting for transport facilities (motorcycle) and more funds to enable us reach out all our beneficiaries as well as create relative space in our office to attend to the beneficiaries.

The Organization is called THE CHILDREN OF LIGHT ALL FOR JESUS

The Organization is fully registered in accordance with the laws and guidelines of the Republic of Uganda, NGO Act (Cap 2007) and other relevant statutory regulations or legal instrument.

The Organization shall be affiliated to Non-Governmental Organization, national and international networks with similar goal and objectives and shall collaborate with the Government in execution of the project mandate and that of the Government.

The Organization is an independent, non-profit making body, non-partisan and shall keep within its mandate in accordance with the provision of its constitution and other rules, regulations made under it.

THE GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE;

The Children of light all for Jesus at this moment is majority operating in the sub counties of Bungatira and Laroo division in Gulu District, but as time goes on it might expand its services to other areas.

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND

The children of light all for Jesus is a faith based organization working to support the vulnerable children who are encountering various challenges in their lives. Some of the problems these children are meeting are lack of parental love, inadequate health support, lack of basic needs to mention but a few. The horrible life these children are going through was due to long insurgency in Northern Uganda which claimed many lives and that is why the negative consequences is now affecting many children.

In delivering these services, we are dwelling our supports in Bungatira sub county Gulu district basing on a number of reasons/needs namely; many total orphans whose parents were killed, trauma minded children, children with disabilities, child mothers, children living with HIV/AIDS, children in worst form of child labor, children in child headed families, dropout children from school/homes and children living with elderly/parents or guidance with severe disabilities.

The objectives of participating in these activities is to help our vulnerable children out of these bondage of suffering and through this we intend to, work closely with the government in promoting universal primary education(UPE), provide psychosocial supports to the needy and economically empowering the disadvantage families/households.

In our operation for the last 2 years, the organization registered, selected and supported some vulnerable children considering their conditions across the sub county of Bungatira in Gulu district. Most of the supports were zeroed down to psychosocial supports as well as educational supports. These activities are ongoing to motivate them keeps on attending schools as the government requires

THE VISION OF THE ORGANIZATION

To enable vulnerable children to reach their optimum potential so that maximal function is achieved in their society through accepting Christ, and live to their potential and rights as well as aspiration are fulfilled so that they may overcome many of the barriers that they and their Caregivers, families/households face.

THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION

To create a platform for orphans and other vulnerable children for enjoyment of God’s gifts and love and fulfillment of responsibilities.

To provide high quality, specialized and affordable physiotherapy to critically vulnerable children.

To provide training, education and support to families, caregivers, households and the communities.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE

The strategic objective of this Organization is ’’ To scale up the institutional response to reach the critically and moderately vulnerable children’’.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

·         To create a platform for orphans and other vulnerable children for enjoyment of God’s gifts, love and the fulfillment of responsibilities.

·         To provide occupational therapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation to children aged 0-16 in order to help them to meet their developmental goals

·         To develop a family-centered environment that can provide information, support, advocacy and networking for families, caregivers, households and their communities

·         To improve the economic security to orphans and other vulnerable children, their caregivers and families/households.

·         Develop partnerships with local medical centre and other similar organizations to enhance our services.

·         To provide relevant information that will engage and empower the community to make informed choices in relation to their health.

·         To lobby and advocate for fair policies/regulations that affect the daily life of the vulnerable children, caregivers and families through research and networking so that it increases access to protection.

·         To expand the provision of essential services to orphans and other vulnerable children, caregivers and families/households.

·         To maintain the financial and ethical integrity of the organization through sound transparency, trust accountabilities, record keeping and up-to-date management practices.

The CHILDREN OF LIGHT ALL FOR JESUS is a membership organization that has come together focusing on the children spiritual development and wellbeing, but will work closely with established civil society organizations, the local government and other development actors both nationally and internationally that share common goals and mandates.

TARGET GROUP;

CLAJ basically works mainly for the poorest of the poor in the rural areas. Its target groups include women and children in the rural communities in the sub counties who are still living in miserable conditions and deprived of very basic necessities of life. For example;

5.      Children in contact with law

7.      Children in worse forms of child labour ( Commercial sexual exploitation, illicit activities, paid domestic work,work that interfere with school attendance)

NET WORKING;

CLAJ has always promoted the networking with other NGOs, CBOs, CSOs, media groups and concerned stakeholders for achieving the goal of sustainable development. Networking with other organizations has always proved very productive by playing as medium between the service providers and those at the receiving end. Networking basically provides opportunity for looking at the issues from different angles i.e. from local, national and finally at regional level. At every level the perspective of issue changes, which then helps in comprehending the issue

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE;

This is fully an independent organization working through the guidance and direction of its top management and that is why there is yet partial Board members in place. The organization is also run by technical staff to help execute its activities work plan and this personnel are under technical management, then at the lower level we have support staff.
